This year, the West Valley big man, one of the biggest talents in the trenches, just transferred and threw his hat into the recruiting fray.

Senior offensive lineman Caleb Jackson-Carter was a name on the radar of college football players while playing basketball at Clovis West High School in Fresno, California.

However, Jackson-Carter had no offers until he arrived at Barr in early May to play for his uncles, Desert Edge co-coaches Marcus and Marcus Carter.

San Diego State began the streak on May 10, with Jackson-Carter receiving the Aztecs' only FBS bid to date. Next up is half of the Big Sky Conference at the FCS level, including NAU.

That number would put Jackson-Carter in the top five on our list of local recruits. But we forgot about the newcomer.

Instead of putting him on the spot and the guy who kicked him, we're just asking you to give Jackson-Carter some — well, a lot — space. So here is his list:

Jackson-Carter adds a more recent memory to the intimate soccer lesson. Five members of the Class of 2023 who are not ranked in the top 10 have one offer from an FCS Division I school.

And he has his sixth chance at the puck this year with a likely pass position. These are listed below, along with the outlook for the 2024 Desert Edge-heavy Class.

Christian Aguilar 6-1 216. Ib. LB (Mountain Ridge) – Aguilar has just one offer to date, but is one of five returning players with an offer from a Division I FCS school that didn't make our top 10 in this usually loaded class. Aguilar can be a linebacker or tight end, and his offer is from Butler, which is better known for its basketball but is part of the D1 Championship League.

Brendan Anderson 6-1 185 lbs. QB (Mountain Ridge) – The area's top quarterback has to handle a typically loaded position – and like many 2023 recruits, the transfer door didn't help. It's been tough for QBs to get offers from major FBS schools lately, but expect another FCS school to join Yale in chasing that flame.

Galvan's Covenant 5-8 160 lbs. ATH (Cactus) – Not on the Division I or even Division II radar at this point, taking over from NAIA schools Arizona Christian and Jamestown. But after two years as the Cobras' starting point guard, Galvan has seen the most growth this season. The plan is to move him to his natural defensive back position and start at wide receiver.

Terrance Hall 5-10 175 lbs. WR (Mountain Ridge) – Hall looks like a top 10 prospect until he looks at the offer list again. After being one of the D1 FCS schools, Morgan State went dry last year. It's certainly not based on performance, as Hall put up all-state numbers as a junior. Like many West Valley players before him, Hall can do a little more because he's not of prototypical size — though he's not small by any means.

Domno Solano 6-4 220 Ihs. RB (Cactus) – While Galvanus running back Damiani Giles and safety Polo Banuelos have more varsity experience and time in the spotlight, the lanky defensive end had a big junior year and is drawing attention and an offer from Big Sky rival Idaho State. NAU's new coach — Charlie Reigle — has a good rapport with Arizona's talent.

Layton Vining 6-3 265 Ibs. C/OG (Liberty) – Coming from a prominent West Valley football family, Vining has started on the line since his sophomore year. Not easy to do with much character depth for Liberty purposes. Big schools showed interest in Sky, and Idaho offered its first Division I offer in June.

Calendars / 2023 24 *proposed* Official School Calendar

1. Andre Gibson 5-11 175 lbs. CB (Desert Edge) – Cornerback earned a 4-star rating in the offseason and won the 13th division I offer overall. Washington, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington State, Iowa State, Arizona State and Oregon State are Power Five schools that are full. Then there's Arizona, which continued a trend that started locally first, offering Gibson before his sophomore year.

2. DeShawn Warner 6-4 205 Ibs. LB/DE (Desert Edge) – Warner is the second pillar of Desert Edge's four youngest star targets. He benefits from the expected height of a tight end or outside linebacker, while classmate Jalen Dawson — who just missed this list — has more of a classic middle linebacker build. Ten Division I schools have offered Warner so far, and interestingly, Arizona is the latest. Nebraska, Oregon, Washington and Iowa are available. Under the Power of 5, San Diego State and UNLV are interesting.

3. Kezion Dia-Johnson 195 6-0 lbs. WR (Desert Edge) – A new man in the Scorpions stable just in time to make waves. Dia-Johnson transferred to Laveen Cesar Chavez and quickly picked up offers from Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon, UNLV and Washington State. His departure and sophomore quarterback Hezekiah Millender will be aided by the presence of powerful senior receivers Vinny Mansfield and Gavin Parks.

4. Noah Carter 6-4 220 Ibs. WR/DE (Centennial) – Carter and his junior Kenny Worthy III (who would be No. 6 on this list) offered Iowa State around the same time. Two things give Carter a slight advantage over his partner Coyote. He is ranked No. 2 by the state of Idaho. Even more intriguing is his frame and speed out of bounds, which give him the tools to develop into a lethal college player. This season should provide opportunities after Centurion saw a dramatic drop in sacks during their 2021 slump.

5. Zues Pindernation 5-9 180 lbs. CB (Millennium) – Pindernation and Worthy III (former teammates at Millennium btw) have one offer, but it's from a Power Five school, they were pushed out by Alciati (offers from UNLV and NAU). So why is the running back and his offer from Arizona outperforming the cornerback from Iowa State? Lack of opportunities for running backs. Just ask seniors Christopher Corder, Damian Giles and even Kavon Clark to step up. Major Division offers RB as gold.
