"Consequently, I'm pleased to tell you that Budget 2023 includes significant investments to support classrooms and students."

The budget includes an additional $20 million to improve market-based wage scales for certified/trained and classified employees. As a result of the changes, PWCS salaries are more competitive. These increases are targeted primarily at the early and mid-career positions in our rankings, where PWCS has the least parity with other school divisions competing for talent. In this way, the number of some certified teachers and staff will increase by more than 7 percent.
In total, the budget invests approximately $10 million in additional funding for special education. This includes a proposal to add 100 full-time special education assistants to provide much-needed support to disadvantaged students. In addition, the hiring of 13 auxiliary technical experts is also considered in this budget. These professionals are critical in supporting student voice and participation in the classroom.
The proposal also includes the addition of 88 full-time kindergarten teachers to support the critical development of early students. To support families, 35 parent liaisons have been added to the budget, with a long-term goal of at least one liaison per school over the next four years. The funding also includes five additional social worker positions and additional support for language translation. Also added to the budget are 15 career counselors to support students and families in post-secondary planning and career and technical training opportunities.

Safe and healthy schools are key. To support this, the budget proposes to hire 29 security specialists and upgrade camera infrastructure and emergency response systems. It also includes hiring 14 additional nurses to further strengthen this key role and reduce the high student-to-nurse ratio.
PWCS' total operating income in fiscal 2023 will increase by approximately $173.1 million, or 14.1%, compared to fiscal 2022. Prince William County's revenue to the PWCS operating fund will be approximately $50.6 million more than in fiscal year 2022, an increase of 9.2 percent. State revenue is approximately $121.6 million more than in fiscal year 2022, an increase of 19.9 percent.
The proposal also includes funding for the PWCS Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which focuses on the need for new facilities and additions to accommodate growth. CIP also funds several restoration projects and promotes the sustainability goals of PWCS.

The budget provides the resources needed at the central level for more efficient and effective activities in promoting the academic progress of schools. As the largest employer in Prince William County, recruiting, hiring and supporting employees requires adequate human resources, financial and support staff to provide timely and systematic support.
Stakeholders have multiple opportunities to hear more about the proposed budget and provide feedback. The school board has scheduled a public hearing for Feb. 7, a public hearing for Feb. 16 and two work sessions. The school board will consider approving the budget on March 16. The city council will review the budget before May 1st.

The survey is open on 30.10. until. It asks whether a later or earlier start of the school year is desirable and whether there are other suggestions from the community that the school system could consider.
According to the proposed calendar, winter vacation will begin on December 20 and students will return to classrooms on January 3. The school's spring break week will be from April 11th to April 15th.
The school year starts later than June, and in addition to the new holiday, the school system adds two full days of parent-teacher conferences for parents of elementary school children.
