West Ada Calendar 2023-2024

West Ada Calendar 2023-2024 – The Houston Independent School District Board of Education approved a proposed 2022-2023 academic calendar that adds an additional spring break in April and changes the last day of the first semester to winter break.

The calendar includes a week of Thanksgiving break, two weeks of winter break, and a week of spring break. Students and staff will be free on Labor Day, MLK Day, Chavez-Huerta Day and Memorial Day. HISD will celebrate fall break on October 5th and two spring breaks on April 7th and 21st.

West Ada Calendar 2023-2024

Trustees approved a grant from the Texas Education Agency to support high-quality after-school programs. $882,500 is from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III to be used to accelerate student learning in the wake of COVID-19. The dollars provide support in three areas: staffing for high-quality after-school programs, technical assistance in the design and implementation of after-school programs, and high-impact after-school instruction.

Trustees approved a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation to M.C. Williams MS' support is based on the fact that it is everyone's game and a safe place to play. Supplies and materials will include a mini court system including LED light poles, play walls, integrated goals, storage, seating, polycarbonate signs, ADA accessible gates, along with playing lines. Acrylic small court surface and approved colors and school logo.

The board also accepted an in-kind donation from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The church will award $30,000 each to Blackshear ES, Cullen MS, Lawson MS and Yates HS. The purpose of the grant is to stock up the resources of each school to help students in need. Donated items include clothing, cosmetics and metro cards.
