Bmcc Academic Calendar Spring 2023 – Welcome! The goal of the Manhattan-Bridge program is to expand the number of minority students participating in biomedical and behavioral science research beyond their bachelor's degree in STEM at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). Job Training Programs

Alivya Barry (Liv) is a first-generation college student currently attending BMCC to pursue an AA in Psychology. Liv spent most of her teenage years attending elite dance schools across the country, but at 17 she began her own healing journey and found a love for psychology. It focuses on women's sexual trauma and addictions. However, after she began participating in the NIH-34 bridge program, she discovered a new passion for sexual trauma research. Liv is expected to complete and publish the first study in late spring 2023.

Evian Pollack is a biotechnology student at BMCC. Evian is a former BMCC National Science Foundation – Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) researcher who reviewed the literature and identified the potential antioxidant properties of five African plants. Within the framework of the Bridges to Baccalaureate Education Fellowship, Evian was taught by dr. José Romero works as an anti-virus intern at the Population Council. The aim of the project is to investigate some plant extracts and their effect on SARS-CoV-2. In the future, Evian wants to continue research as an environmental scientist. Gabriel is a second-generation graduate student studying biology at BMCC. His interest in research was piqued during his first year in the BMCC CUNY Research Scholarship Program. After completing his first year, he joined the T34 Research Fellowship program, which coincided with his interest in biomedical sciences and served as an excellent mentor in his current university career. Currently, Gabriel and his mentor, Dr. Giza, are investigating the role of certain growth factors and their effects on the brain. This study allowed him to apply concepts from cellular and molecular biology and extend them to neuropsychiatric disorders.

Team Taught Courses

Jahdiel Rondon is a first-generation graduate student studying psychology at BMCC. His interest in the show stemmed from his curiosity about human behavior. He discovered that behavioral science could answer many questions, and this immediately sparked his interest in the field. My mentorship is Dr. Khushmand Rajendran and Dr. Sarah O'Neill, who is very nice and kind, helped me shape my future research plans. Nana Wiafe Addae Owusu is a first generation graduate student from Ghana. Bachelor of Biology in third semester at BMCC. Born into a low-income family, he dreamed of becoming a cardiologist. Nana realized that she needed support to make her dream come true. Not only is medical school expensive, it also requires research experience. Nana soon got acquainted with this wonderful HÍD program, guaranteed research experience and an "elephant" scholarship, which she did not even dare to dream about. Nana is now Dr. Alexander Gosslau, who has supported her as a mentor until now, is committed to helping science students who have never touched a pipette. Together, they study the effects of black tea on chronic inflammation. Nana pursues her dream of studying medicine and getting perfect grades on the MCAT.
