Fairfield University Academic Calendar 2023-2024

According to CDC guidance dated 8/11/22, screening of asymptomatic students will not occur upon arrival. The University does not require testing of students who are unvaccinated, asymptomatic, or arriving on campus or visiting weekly.

If you are experiencing symptoms, we ask that you do not come to campus. Please contact the Student Health Center to discuss next steps and to make alternative moves.

Students who test positive for Covid-19 should contact the Student Health Center at 203-254-4000. 2241. The nurse is reviewing the university's isolation protocol. A contact tracing nurse interviews students who have tested positive to identify close contacts.

According to the latest CDC guidelines, people who test positive for Covid-19 should be isolated from others for five days, regardless of vaccination status. After five days of isolation, re-entry into the university community is permitted if criteria are met, such as wearing a mask for an additional five days. Students must be cleared by the Student Health Center nurse before returning to the campus community. Students should plan to isolate themselves at home or in a designated personal area.

School, Career & College Counseling / Nahs Course Descriptions

All students exposed to Covid-19, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask for ten days after the last exposure and be monitored for symptoms during the testing days after the last exposure. According to CDC guidance dated 8/11/22, the university's requirement to quarantine unvaccinated students from others for 5 days has been rescinded.

Students identified through contact tracing will receive an email from the contact tracing nurse, who will wear a mask for ten days after the last exposure, monitor for symptoms, and be tested on the 5th day after the last exposure. The university offers home testing to identified students if needed. Students with symptoms should visit the health center for evaluation.

There is no formal distance learning option for students with disabilities. However, faculty work directly with students who are unable to attend class due to Covid-19. Students should contact each of their professors about missed work and assignments. If a student leaves for medical reasons, faculty will be notified of our Covid-19 faculty notification process.

Students should always practice good hygiene, which includes washing hands frequently, covering your mouth and nose when you are sick, and staying home when you are sick. Students should practice help-seeking behavior when they come to a health center or private health care facility and feel sick.

As shared by Dr. Nemek said last week that over the past two years, we have made great strides in balancing the challenges of Covid-19 while maintaining academic continuity and community vibrancy. To that end, we strive to protect our data, respond to state and local guidelines, and use mitigation strategies to minimize exposure to our community. The University accepts rapid antigen tests, including PCR tests or home tests. If you arrive on campus on Monday, you can take the exam to submit on Friday.

3. All students, regardless of immunization status, must participate in a repeat campus screening during the first week of classes.

As we prepare to welcome our students back to campus for the spring semester, a safe return to campus life is our top priority. To keep our community safe, the University is taking the following necessary steps, which we hope will help reduce the risk of academic disruption and make the spring semester more enjoyable.

It is important to recognize that we live in a dynamic environment because of the pandemic. The university will issue an updated communication on January 11, which will include additional information on Covid-19 protocols and assessments. We appreciate your understanding and acceptance as we prepare for the spring semester.

Since the start of the global Covid-19 pandemic, we have continued to closely monitor data from the pilot program with the surrounding community. For nearly two years, we have streamlined our operations to maintain academic continuity and a strong student experience. As we enter the last few days of the semester and to ensure that our community can have a healthy and safe vacation with family and friends, we have decided to implement some mitigation strategies to respond to the increase in cases on and off campus. community Although the recent increase in cases does not pose a threat, we must take care to ensure that all students complete their final course requirements and return home safely.

The campus will not be closed for the rest of the semester, but all non-essential meetings and activities on campus will be canceled or postponed during this time. We encourage employees who can work remotely. Students who are able to complete an individual test and return home should do so. All exams scheduled for Friday, December 17 will be held as scheduled. However, we will be transferring final grades for our students to an online or alternative format from 18 December where possible. We take these steps very carefully. We have successfully navigated these difficult waters as a university so far, and by making adjustments at this time, we can better serve the health and well-being of our students and the community at large. . Summer is almost over! Many of our athletes will be on campus for several weeks. This week's r.a.s. Start preparing our housing stock for transition. I suspect that many students look forward to the start of the school year with excitement, optimism, and anxiety about the upcoming semester.

Over the past 18 months we have all had to make constant changes and adjust our routines due to Covid-19. We recognize that it is not simple. The University continues to assess how Covid-19 will affect our campus community, city, state and nation and will make further adjustments during the semester to keep our students and staff healthy. It's too early to say exactly what those changes will be. I assure you that the decisions taken will be duly communicated to you.
