We are deeply saddened to announce that our very own Raymond V. Damadian, MD, Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Biophysics, widely known as the "Father of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)," passed away on August 3 at the age of 86.
SUN has lost its legendary reputation for revolutionizing diagnostic medicine. He was a true pioneer, dedicated to medicine and research.

Dr. Damadian was one of the first to propose the use of magnetic resonance (NMR) in medical imaging. He is best known for developing the first commercial MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine, now widely used in clinics around the world, which revolutionized diagnosis and treatment.

He began researching how to use it to express the body. He discovered that the relaxation times of NMR signals differed between normal and cancerous tissues, giving way to what became known as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
